This text brings together a collection of essays from
many of the leading applied health communication
scholars in the United States. The essays focus
on a variety of current and important health commu¬
nication contexts and issues, including provider-
patient relationships, healthcare organizations,
healthcare teams,
intercultural
issues in health
communication, new technologies in health commu¬
nication, health communication and aging, and health
campaigns. The authors of each chapter draw upon
considerable experience in applied health communi¬
cation research, and they offer insight into the many
challenges of conducting applied health communica¬
tion research.
The primary audience for this book is graduate stu¬
dents or advanced undergraduate students studying
health communication. The authors have integrated
many features to make the textbook accessible to a
wide range of ability, including the integration of dis¬
cussion questions built into the conclusion of each
chapter.
The book introduces students to both understud¬
ied topics within the area of health communication
as well as current research issues within more estab¬
lished health communication contexts. The authors
for each chapter were selected because of their
exemplary research in a particular area of health
communication. The chapters offer students a more
in-depth look at many health communication topics
than other current health communication books on
the market.
