Richard E
Selcer holds a B.A. in education and an MA. from Austin College, as well as a Ph.D. in U.S. his¬
tory, specializing in the Civil War, from Texas Christian University. He is currendy an adjunct professor at
Dallas County Community College and Tarrant County Junior College. Among his many books is one con¬
centrated on General George F. Pickett, one on Pickett and General Robert E. Lee during the Civil War, and
one on Fort Worths transformation during die Civil War from a fort into a city.
Richard Balkin has run his own literary agency for more than
30
years and was tbe agent and literary con¬
sultant for the Ford Foundation and a charter contributing editor to American Poetry Review. He has also
written articles for numerous magazines, including Working Woman, McCall s, Coda, After Dark, Modern
Maturity, Glamour, Writer s Digest, and Sociological Inquiry. His book publications include A Writers Guide
to Book PubUshing and How to Negotiate Your Own Publishing Contract.
