хождения, продвинувшейся в Приднепровские
степи вместе с монголами, второе

западной ориентацией,

принадлежит типич¬
ному для Восточноевропейских степей золотоор-
дынскому кочевнику половецкого происхождения.
Концентрация погребений степного населе¬
ния Западного улуса Золотой Орды в курганах в
округе Комсомольска на Нижнем Пеле очерчи¬
вает, вероятно, один из местных центров пребы¬
вания представителей администрации этого го¬
сударства на днепровской переправе, вблизи гра¬
ниц ордынских и литовско-русских владений.
Таким образом, в исследованных курганах об¬
наружены выразительные материалы, отражающие
этапы заселения этого приднепровского микро¬
региона на границе Степи и Лесостепи, распрос¬
транение древностей тех или иных археологи¬
ческих культур, начиная от эпохи позднего энео¬
лита до начала позднего средневековья.
Издание дополнено антропо-одонтологичес-
ким анализом остеологических материалов, вы¬
явленных в погребениях, а также результатами
определений специалистов естественных и тех¬
нических дисциплин.

In summer
2006,
Preserving Archaeological Ex¬
pedition Unit of the of the Centre of Preservation and
Research of Archaeological Sites of the Culture De¬
partment of the Poltava State Regional Administrati¬
on investigated barrows of three groups near to village
Solontsy of the Dmytrov Countryside Council, town
Komsomolskofthe Poltava Region, situated between
villages Solontsy, \bloshyno, and Basaluky, in

les toward north, north-west from the mentioned town,
in area of the river Psel. Preserving investigations of
the barrows and the neighbouring barrow-like rises ha¬
ve been provoked with planned erection on this area
in the lower flow of Psel of the new Eristov quarry of
ferrous quartzites.
In

barrows it is found
33
burials, more than ten
pits of different use, objects, linked with the barrows
of the Group I, near to village Solontsy and IV near to
village

of the Ukrainian farms of the late
XIX-
first third XX centuries. Among the investigated
burials, there are
4
of the late Neolith,
6
of the pits,
7
of catacombs,
9
of the felling,
1
of the Belozersk,
1
of
the early Chernolessk,

Scythian, and
2
nomadic of
Golden Horde.
Among the investigated burial complexes a
unique one for the micro-region is the late Neolithic
burial
3
of the barrow
2
of the group I near to village
Solontsy, made in box of stone with an anthropomor¬
phic monument an accompanied with a clay pot of the
Repin type, decorated with rich ornament. In another
burial of the neighbouring barrow
3,
there were found
pieces of two clay vessels, dated back to the same time,
with traditional decorations of the Dereiv Neolithic
tribes of the Dnieper area.
Our attention is drawn by a few burials of the pits
and catacombs period from barrow
7,
group IV, bet¬
ween villages \bloshyno and Solontsy. In one of them
is discovered skeleton of a man-warrior, killed with an
arrow with tip of the Donetsk catacombs culture.
An especial attention is drawn by complex of two-
chamber catacomb

of barrow
1,
group I, near to vil¬
lage Solontsy, constructed under poured embankment
of the late pit barrow for a leader of one tribe of the
Donetsk catacomb culture. Among the inventory, put
into the grave of the young warrior, there were mace
with a marble top, stone scraper, large clay vessel, first
discovered safe between rivers \brskla and
Sula.
With
this burial is obviously linked and small anthropo¬
morphic stone monument on the top of the barrow.
No less interesting are discovered in the felling
burial of the

barrow, group I, pieces of a clay vessel
with acute sides and description of one of myths on it.
The description is a pictogram, in which are used: the
signs of tree of life, zigzag-serpent, M-like sign, and
the shaman's figure in a special hat.
In the barrows near to villages Solontsy and \b-
loshyno were found separate burials of Belozersk and
the early Chernolessk cultures, the last of which had
been robbed in
XVII
century. With the activity of the
robbers is obviously linked the find of Russian coin
-
copper, silvered post-reformed "polushka"

of a
"den'ga";
?
of a "kope'ika"), dated back to the time of
rule of Tsar
Alexy
Michael Romanov (after
1654-1655).

Two burials of the Scythian time V-IV centuries
B.C., made in two quite large pits with entrances. They
were refilled by the considerable pouring the embank¬
ments of the barrows. Typical, in general, for the area
adjacent to Dnieper's left bank, these burial complex¬
es were robbed, first
-
in
XVII
and XX century, and in
the second
casé
in the first quarter of the XX century.
Far from being surprising is found in the em¬
bankment of the barrow
2,
group I, near to village
Solontsy, nomadic burials of the Golden Horde, da¬
ted back to the late
XIII
and the early
XIV
centuries
(burials
2
and
6).
First of them is a female with inven¬
tory, with orientation to the northern sector. It is lin¬
ked with a group of an oriental origin, which moved
toward the Dnieper steppe along with Moguls. The
second one is a male, with the western orientation. It
belongs to the typical for the Eastern Europe steppe
nomad of the Golden Horde.
Such a concentration of burials of steppe popu¬
lation of the
Wèstern ulus
of the Golden Horde in the
barrows of the Komsomolsk environs in the lower
flow of Psel, probably, outlines one of the state region¬
al centres near to the Golden Horde and the
Lithuanian-Russian borders.
Thus, in the examined barrows found expressive
artefacts, reflecting the stages of population spread of
this microregion, adjacent to the river Dnieper, on
borderline of steppe and forest-steppe, spread of
antiquities of different archaeological cultures from
the late Neolith up to the late Middle Ages.
The publication is complemented with deonto-
logical analysis of the osteological artefacts, found
into the burials, as well as with the results of natural
and technical studies.
