Media
Law and Practice
Media Law and Practice is essential reading for all those working in or studying media law. It offers a
reference guide for practitioners to the major legal and regulatory issues in the field, and a media law
textbook for a course of academic study. It is the first book providing an in-depth analysis of how
the various forms of intellectual property and information law interact with media law.
Written by a combination of expert academics and practitioners in the field, it combines rigorous
academic discussion with analysis of genuine practice issues including analysis of the relevant
aspects of law governing the media in its many forms. It examines not only the theoretical basis
of legal concepts such as defamation, but also the application of the law in areas such as the high
paced environment of daily newspapers. The book considers the changing reality of what constitutes
broadcasting , including the regulation of distribution channels, and the regulation of material
distributed via those channels, and the implications of the online, borderless world for, amongst
other things, defamation law. It also covers intellectual property issues in the media, with a specific
emphasis on copyright works, trade marks and the exploitation of Intellec

property via licensing.
The work primarily discusses the identified themes in the context of UK and
EU
law.
David Goldberg taught law at the School of Law. University of Glasgow from
1971-2000.
He is an

Studies. University of Oxford. He facilitates media law
learning at Glasgow Caledonian University: Queen Mary College (University of London) and Stirling
University. In
1979.
he founded the lournal of Media Law and Practice, now Bloomsbury Professional s

Gavin Sutter is I ecturer in Media Law and a member of the Institute of Computer and
Communications Law at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies. Queen Mary. University of London.
He established, manages and teaches on the LLM Media Law course for the ICCL and sits on Che
editorial board of Tottel s Communications Law journal.
