Summary
The evolution of the artistic position of the accordion took place on several
levels, thanks to the factors intertwined in some kind of cultural phenomenon.
The instrument from the simplest tool for popular music evolved into a sophisti¬
cated form of a concert instrument with the great colourful and sound effects
abilities. Those conscious of this newly born form of the instrument became real
accordion virtuosos. The development of both educational system and modern
methods of teaching assured a growing level of education. Composers showed
a growth of interest towards the accordion as a serious instrument, which when
used in creating, may reveal fascinating attributes. Rapid increase of composi¬
tions for the accordion or with its participation in the last half century resulted in
broad concert and didactic repertoire. It is in this field, where the programme
music appears as conscious link between the intention of the author and the
perception of the listener and the performer. The programme, suggested by the
title or other performance hints is adequately addressed to the level of the per¬
former, creating in this way a useful didactic mental platform for development
with a whole spectrum of assisting themes

gramme music also became sought-after value when using transcribed music.
The specific sound features of the accordion, its capacity for expressing illus¬
trated elements of music, its wide sound array, encourage for translation on ac¬
cordion pieces, which in accordion transcriptions gain new interesting sound ex¬
pression.
Thus, programme music is one of attractive values used in creating the pre¬
sent state of accordionistics. This factor, consciously implemented into the sys¬
tem of education and accepted by composers, causes, that in concert promotion
of the accordion programme repertoire constitutes an essential and important
part. It is well perceived and remembered by the audience, and it awakes interest.
In this way the above mentioned cultural phenomenon built on the basis of the
technical development of the instrument, growing skills of performers, interest of
composers, didactic progress and general perception of the audience is supported
by programme music, frequently accompanying these events.
The artistic work made of pieces belonging to programme music is the
proposition showing how the accordion turns out to be useful in the realisation of
different kinds of programme music in both original and transcribed pieces.
