Summary
The subject of the study concentrates on absolute hearing issues
and an absolute method in training of hearing. The impulse for un¬
dertaking the research was the information from works of a Japa¬
nese acoustics engineer Ken ichi

that more than half of all music school students have the absolute
hearing ability. In

concludes
that the age of a child plays a decisive role in development of abso¬
lute hearing ability.

of professional musicians with absolute
hearing surveyed by Sergeant started to learn playing an instru¬
ment at the age of
2-4.
We are more and more aware of the fact that
from the viewpoint of effective music education the early years
constitute the most valuable period of child s life. Analysis of sub¬
ject s literature proves that absolute hearing is a natural way of
human hearing, and that predisposition starts to recede by the age
of seven.
The research issues of the study were determined by an attempt
to find the empirical answer to a basic question asked in methodol¬
ogy of hearing training: which method
-
absolute or relative
-
should be used in the first stage of hearing training and how the
absolute hearing issue is perceived by musicians. Experimental re-

search was to give the answer whether the ability of absolute hear¬
ing succumbs to effective stimulation at the early school age and
what this stimulation depends on. The results of the experimental
research were related to two test groups, which were not con¬
sciously stimulated. In order to define attitude of musicians to¬
wards absolute hearing there were conducted surveys among
80
students.
The survey conducted on an experimental group suggested that
there is a possibility of effective stimulation of absolute hearing
ability among early school children. The children who underwent
the stimulation process, significantly improved their abilities as
shown in statistics. Comparative analysis of achievements of the
experimental group and the two test groups shows that the main
favourable factor on the way to improve one s absolute hearing is,
apart from conscious stimulation, the age of a child when it starts
music education. Children from the other test group who started
practical training in playing an instrument at the age of five per¬
formed the test of giving the name of seven scale standards even
better than those from the experimental group. For shaping the ab¬
solute hearing abilities, the early practical music initiation of chil¬
dren
(3-6
years old) seems to play more important role than con¬
scious stimulation of these skills at a later age. The way to develop¬
ing the ability of absolute hearing leads through permanent memo¬
risation of the seven standards of the musical scale

The possibility of conscious stimulation of these skills among
children aged
7-8
advocates the use of absolute method at an early
stage of music schooling. Its usage is conducive to domination of
key

mayor in recommended musical textbooks. It is also closely
connected with specific thinking characteristic of this age group,
and with high sensitiveness to sensor stimuli.
The results of surveys suggest that absolute hearing is an ex¬
tremely attractive and desired way of hearing among musicians.
