OF THE BULGARIAN REVIVAL

Summary
The book presents the cultural and the literary processes of
the Bulgarian Revival (XVHI-XIX c.) through the psycho
-
so¬
cial investigation of the emotions. These processes are related to
intense and usually polarized passions: of acceptance and unac-
ceptance, of attraction and repudiation of rapture and hesitation.
These shades of the renaissance phenomena manifest themselves
powerfully in the field of the cultural transformations which is
symptomatic for transition periods. Certain positions become ac¬
tivated then, which direct the energies of the collective actions
towards the confirmation of identities -national, cultural, personal.
The Renaissance man passes through many trials, experiencing
emotions, which gradually transforms into stereotypes of behav¬
ior. This is the ground to formulate behaviors,
stereotypie
for the
determination of the types the angry man , the fearing man ,
the laughing man , the expecting man etc., which are an ex¬
pression of analogous social reactions. The different
forais
and
manifestations of cultural behavior of the man of the Revival are
expressed in different emotions and affects in a wide scope
-
shame,
fear, anger, blame, anxiety, laughter, joy.
The emotions are not individual states
-
they are collective
emotions, emotions of the socium. They model the behavior, form
the stereotypes of thinking, actions, they become a kind of shared
experience. The investigation follows their psycho-physiological
and philosophic nature, as well as their social determination. The
emotions as a social phenomenon are characterized by complex¬
ity of the expression and manifestation. Generated and determined
by different sociological and cultural arguments, by phenomena
like trauma and expectation, the emotions acquire respectively

different interpretations in the personal behavior. Further more,
they often mutually induce themselves, transform into each other,
turn over ideas and models, generating the complex emotional pic¬
ture of a community for a historical period.
