IMPACT ON ECONOMICALLY ACTIVE
POPULATION IN BULGARIA
Summary
The process of labour force ageing in Bulgaria over the period
1985-
2001
is examined in the present study while the ageing of the total population
of the country is set as background phenomenon. The evolution of the size
and the basic demographic structures of the total labour force over the men¬
tioned period is analyzed within the framework of the ageing process. The
characteristics of the labour force ageing by industry in Bulgaria in compari¬
son with some selected European countries are studied, and the "oldest" and
respectively the "youngest" industries in the country over the studied period
are determined. The processes transferring the changes in the total popula¬
tion into impact on the economically active population and its age composi¬
tion are studied. The evolution of the stage of demographic and economic
burden on the labour force over the same period as well as the impact of the
changes in the age structure of the population in working age on the total
participation rates are analyzed.

Summary
