Summary
Çassius
Dio
tells how, when the victory of the Romans over
the Dacians appeared imminent, Decebalus, in order to safe
guard his treasure from the hands of the enemy, altered the
course of the river
Sargetia,
buried the treasure under the
old river bed, then brought the old course back. However, a
prisoner, under tremendous torture, revealed the location of the
hiding place, and thus the Romans brought back from
Dacia
an
enormous quantity of precious metal:
2,570,000
lb. of gold and
twice that quantity of silver, according to Criton, emperor Trajan s
personal physician.
Some people believe that Decebalus treasure has not been
found yet, and they continue to look for it. Over the last few
years, thousands of
Dacian
gold coins Ckosons) have been found
at the site of Sarmizegetusa, the capital of
Dacia,
and they have
been illegally sold abroad.
The author of the present book, using a metaphor, but ex¬
pressing the reality, says that not only precious metals, but also
an enormous spiritual treasure has been buried there, including
the
Dacian
language, about which we know almost nothing nowa¬
days. So that, although in ancient times the Dacians had a very
345
Dacia

advanced civilization, admired by such personalities as Socrates,
Herodotus,
Dio
Chrysostom, nowadays it lies hidden in almost
impenetrable mystery.
The author has dived deep in that mystery, as in a deep
ocean, searching for the spiritual treasure, considered lost for
ever, and has made surprising discoveries.
He has started from the statements of ancient authors, among
which is a very prestigious one, a classic of the Christian Golden
Century, St Ephrem Syrus (4th century). These authors identify
the river Danube with Pison, the first of the four rivers that Moses,
in the book of Genesis, describes as situated in Eden.
The author has then proceeded to identify the land of
Havilah that Moses describes as situated on the banks of the
Pison. Now, on the banks of the Danube is the land of
Vlah ,
as Romania is named in the most ancient documents, which we
have originating from Armenia to Iceland and from
Constantinople to Sweden and the Vatican. If we consider the
ha as the Hebrew definite article, the root VILAH (the
г
is a
semivowel, optionally pronounced) is almost identical with
VLAH,
the name given to the Romanians and their country un¬
til the 19th century.
Once this perspective has been opened, other mysteries
could be solved. Mioritza, an ancient popular ballad, much
older than Christianity, is considered by all Romanian and for¬
eign researchers as the emblematic poem of the Romanians.
The story is that of the violent death of a beautiful (physically
and spiritually) young shepherd, in a paradisiacal natural envi¬
ronment ( in a corner of Heaven ). However, from the point of
view of the theme, it is identical with the linos, the ancient
Greek chant, mentioned by Homer in the Iliad. Herodotus
wondered that he should find this chant in Cyprus, Phoenicia,
and other places, under the name of
mañeros
being the most
ancient song of the Egyptians. These particulars attest to the
great age of the poem. But while the other versions have long
disappeared, the Romanian Mioritza is sung as a carol during
Chrismastime, even today, and it is recorded in over
1,000
variants, a singular case in world poetry. Moreover, comparing
the poem with the biblical text from Genesis, the author dem-

onstrates that in Mioritza we find narrated the killing of Abel,
proving that the poem comes to us from the dawn of humanity.
In Transylvania, there have been found three clay tablets
with an archaic writing, similar to the proto-Sumerian writing.
However, American, Russian, and Bulgarian specialists consider
it to be older by
1,500 - 2,000
years than the
Sumerian
writing,
a fact that is confirmed by radio-carbon dating. Although deci¬
phering of the tablets has been attempted, there have been no
conclusive results. In the present book, the text on one of the
tablets is deciphered; it was a prayer that accompanied ritual
sacrifice.
Dinosaur fossils have been discovered in, the region of
Hatzeg, near the Roman and
Dacian
ruins. Among them there
were some belonging to species previously unknown. Lately,
other discoveries have been made here that are absolutely sen¬
sational: in May
2002,
over
50
dinosaur eggs have been found in
a perfect state of preservation. It has been found that this was
the last place on earth where dinosaurs survived, the prestigious
Discovery television channel commissioning a series of docu¬
mentaries in which it was described as the island of Hatzeg , a
veritable refuge for the dinosaurs during the last period before
their extinction. The present author has compared those dino¬
saur species with the dragon so vividly and realistically de¬
scribed in the book of Job and, having found uncanny similari¬
ties, has concluded that the biblical monster is not a fiction, but
a real animal that lived in these regions and was described by an
eyewitness.
Another spectacular discovery is the identification in the
mosaics at Ravenna of figures of Dacians and a procession of
martyrs dressed in Romanian folk costumes. The comparison
between the artistic figures and the dress of Romanian peasant
women is edifying. But everything appears as an enigma, for
the solving of which the author embarks on a thrilling detec¬
tive adventure, in which the Thracian origin of Justinian, the
builder of the monuments at Ravenna, plays a critical role.
This is the general tone of the book. Although it is based
on strictly scientific data, refusing any unfounded assertion,
each statement being based on hard evidence, the book is very

Dacia edenică
readable, even attractive, because the exploration of the re¬
motest ages is seen as an ongoing adventure, in which author
and reader participate with the same passion, equally surprised
by the unusual reality that is encountered at every step.
