Introduction
When preparing the evaluation of the threat catego-
ries for The 2000 Red List of Finnish species (Rassi
et al. 2001) it became painfully obvious that check
lists of Finnish fungi are lacking. Later Salo et al.
(2005) compiled a check list of agarics and boletes
(altogether 1702 taxa) with ecological notes, distri-
butions and threat categories.
In this book all the 980 aphyllophoroid and
heterobasidioid Basidiomycota taxa so far known
in Finland are listed, including 89 taxa which are
reported for the first time. In the list there are also
taxa which are still undescribed (according to the au-
thor Kytovuori), e.g. in the genus Ramaria {Ramaria
aff. decurrens, R. aff. flavigelatinosa etc.). Being un-
named, they are not reported as new to Finland, but
are included in the total amount of species. Because
no earlier check lists occur, we cannot compare the
changes (increase) in numbers of the species included
here. However, among polypores and corticioid fun-
gi earlier lists are available (Kotiranta 2001, Niemela
2001). According to Niemela (2001) there were 221
polypore species and according to Kotiranta (2001)
372 corticioid species in Finland. Niemela (2005)
reports 230 polypores and in this publication 422
corticioid species are reported. For the delimitation
of corticioid fungi see Kotiranta (2001).
Nomenclature
The species composition roughly follows Hansen
andKnudsen (1997), except that the gastromycetoid
genera are excluded. The nomenclature used here is
not found in any list or manual, but the polypores
mostly follow Niemela (2005); however, only Oli-
goporus rennyi and O. sericeomollis were left in that
genus and the others were transferred to Postia, in
accordance with recent molecular studies (Tuomo
Niemela, pers. comm.).
The most important synonyms are given as well
as the common Finnish and Swedish names (if exist-
ing). The genera and species are arranged in their
alphabetic order.
In this list the commonest host tree species are
abbreviated to the genus only:
