Phasmids - receptors, usually punctiform on lateral sides of tail in central part of lateral
field In the families Tylenchidae and Anguinidae phasmid like organs are advulval and
dorsal from the lateral field (Fig 3)
Procorpus - see pharynx
Rectum - most posterior part of digestive tract (Fig 3)
Renette cell - secretory-excretory gland cell located on ventral side of body posterior to
pharynx end
Reproductive system, female - is composed of vulva, vagina, uterus and ovary
Basically the female reproductive system has both anterior and posterior branches equally
developed (= didelphic) Some groups of nematodes lost posterior branch (= unpaired,
prodelphic system) and then usually vulva moved more posterior in position (Fig 2)
Shaft - see stylet
Spermatheca - enlarged portion of female uterus that functions as reservoir of sperm
Spermatheca may be either as an offset pouch that projects from reproductive system or
may be in line that is when developing ovum passes through spermatheca (Fig 2)
Spicule - male intromittent paired organs functioning during copulation for the transfer
of sperm Each spicule is a cuticularised elongated piece extrusible through cloaca
Spicules are surrounded by a spicular pouch (Fig 3)
Stylet - hollow structure used for piercing host cells and for intake of food Stylet is
divided into anterior conical part (= cone) and posterior tubular part (= shaft) that usually
ends with three knobs These knobs serve as attachments of stylet protractors (Fig 1)
Sublateral lobes - outgrowths on anterior surface of head of Criconematoidea (Fig 4)
Underbridge - see fenestra
Uterus - part of female reproductive system composed of uterine sac, a sphincter,
colufnella that is glandular part producing egg shell, spermatheca and oviduct (Fig 2)
Vagina - canal connecting uterus with vulva The part near vulva, which is lined with
cuticle (= vagina vera) may have single or double cuticular outgrows called epiptygma
(Fig 2, 5)
Valve plates - see pharynx
Vulva - female reproductive opening that is usually a slit transverse to body axis Vulva
has anterior and posterior lips, the anterior may form a flap covering vulva Vulva may
me bordered by advulval lateral cuticular membranes or flaps (Fig 2, 5)
Vulval bridge - see fenestra
