Abstract
Schuldscheine - generally translated as German certificate of indebtedness - are enjoying
something of a revival as an alternative source of funding for German financial and
corporate borrowers. While the devastating credit squeeze that has been gumming up the
interbank and commercial paper loan markets for months is only letting up slowly, the
Schuldschein market expands rapidly and makes its way into neighbouring countries such as
Switzerland and France.
