SUMMARY
The aim of this research is understanding of the real meaning and
significance of the Kant's philosophy. The neccesity of that is con¬
nected with the fact that in the
marxist
(especially, in the Soviet) phi¬
losophical literature Kant was treated at most as the predecessor of
Hegel. The idea that Hegel failed to solve the questions raised by Kant
and in some sense returned to the outlook having been overcome by
Kant was out of the question. This negative attitute towards the «critical
philosophy» was based on the views of the founders of marxism who
said that «the helpless German burghers reached only «the goodwill».
Kant eased his mind on the goodwill even if it remained absolutely
fruitless»
(Маркс К. и Энгельс
Φ.
Соч., т.
3,
с.
182).
Revealingly
Marx and Engels
characterised the teaching of Kant as the expression of
the German philistinism's interests which they deeply despised. Unlike
them
Heinrich
Heine compared Kant with Robespierre stressing that
«this great destroyer in the kingdom of thought excelled Maximilian
Robespierre at his terrorism»
(Гейне Г. Собр. Соч., т.
6,
с.
97,1958).
Marx amd Engels
sarcastically alleged that for Kant republic was
only a postulate of pure reason
-
an anattainable ideal. Meanwhile ac¬
cording to Kant the principle of republicanism is materialized in every
real state. According to Kant the essense of this principle is in the sepa¬
ration of powers (legislative, executive and judicial) and in their relative
independence
od
each other. It's worth pointing out the genious Kant's
thoughtfullness when he maintained that the principle of republicanism
(res
publica
-
the common cause, common good) can be maintained in
the monachic state while Marx and
Engels
concidered it to be abso¬
lutely impossible till the 70-ties
XIX.
And they were sure to make a
mistake. Nowdays Britain, Denmark, Nethelands, Sweden and Norway
are monarchic and at the same time more democratic states than repub¬
lican France, Italy, Germany not to speak of the USA and the counries
of Latin America.
Engels
maintained that thanks to the achievements of science and
technology the Kant's so-called incognizable «thing-in-itself» turns into
quite cognizable «thing-for-us». As an example he mentioned the cog¬
nition of the chemical composition of coal. It appears the idea that from
Kant's point of view coal was not «thing-in-itself» but quite a cogniza-

ble
phenomenon did't enter his head. According to Kant «thing-in-
itself» is out of space and time and therefore it can't be the object-
matter of cognition. Apparently
Engels
didn't hammer at «The Critique
of Pure Reason» if he read it at all. The same can be said about Lenin
and other followers of the founders of marxism.
Such mutilated, vulgarized understanding of Kant's philosophy
dominated in soviet philosophical literature for many years. For exam¬
ple it was said that Kant vilipended Reason to strengthen the religious
faith.
Only at the last quarter of the last century a turnaround to the more
correct understanding of Kant was marked out. For example, in
1974
in
the introduction to the collective work of the Institute of Philosophy of
the Russian Academy of Sciences «The Philosophy of Kant and Mod¬
ernity» it was stressed:
«
The contents and the meaning of Kant's phi¬
losophy can't be reduced to the fact that he was Hegel's predecessor.
Hegel failed to assimilate some positive moments of Kant's philo¬
sophy».
More than
30
years have passed since this book was published.
Nowdays the recognition of the everlasting actuality of Kant's philoso¬
phy has become a truth necessary for the further creative development
of philosophy all over the world. This truth was well expressed by the
professor of Moscow State University V.V. Vasilyev: «The great Kant's
ment
arises to inculcation in the philosophical Europe the ability of
critical reflection. But the results of his reformation revealed themselves
not at once. They have become evident mostly nowdays. Kant is a very
modern philosopher partly because he's the «ideologist of globalisa¬
tion» which is possible without conflicts only on the basis of the critical
reflection so much valued by him»
(Васильєв В.
В. Маятник иллюзий:
ускользнувшее Я (К вопросу о статусе субъекта в философии Кан¬
та) //»Кантовский сборник», вып.
26,
Калининград,
2006.
С.
80).
I agree with this statement though it's a bit general. The notion of criti¬
cal reflection needs
concrétisation,
analysis, comparison with other
forms of philosophical critique. The results of such work have found
their expression in this monography
-
the comparative study of Kant's
and Hegel's philosophical teachings.
