chosen to greet with bouquet of flowers the well known Zhysten
Gotara while visiting Gjirokastra. At the age of

she started
collecting and organizes old folk songs and.

She studied in Tirana at the Kyri school and
a Nena
Mbretereshe institute from
1930
to
1937.
While studying she
also managed to write about social problems. Her writings were
published in
1937
in the Shtypi newspaper under the nicknamo
Muza
(the Muse).
In
1938
she started studying literature in
Rßme,
Italy. In
1939
she writes

This book is a summon of various ethnographic tales.

news paper. In meantime she also increased the young national¬
istic movement to the schools in Tirana.
She also worked in her brother s library called Venus
witch she promoted as an important intellectuals center· In
1944
Musine
wrote a· considerable amount of linguistic studies. She
also collected a huge amount of tales, legends and fairy tales
from Gjirokastra, Vlora, Tepelena, Korea, Elbasan, Shkodra and
Shkup in order to promote the Albanian literature. In

she
publishes the books

All of them published by the publishing house
of the Kokalari brothers. Her work is recognized inside and out¬
side Albania.
In
1942
Musine
Kokalari could be found also in the Ital¬
ian encyclopedia as a talented writer of the time. She has appre¬
ciations from known figures as Prof.
Angelo
Leotti, Prof.
Kar¬
lo
Tagliavini,
Prof.
Aleksander
Xhuvani, Prof. Sotir Kolea, Prof.
Filip
Fishta,
Prof, Lasgush Poradeci,
Mitrush Kuteli,
and Ernest
Koliqi etc.
She is also well established women in Albanian literature.
She has contacts with well known figures in Albanian politics
during WW2 and she devotes her self to the pro west program of
the social democratic party.
At the end of WW2 she is against the newly communist gov¬
ernment established in Albania.
Her anticommunist activity is seen as a threat by the com¬
munist party therefore in

the parti¬
san forces execute by shooting her two brothers. The

er is safe because of his sickness. From

times arrested because of her political views. In

she is involved in a intellectual s movement who aims to
postpone the elections of December the

members from Kokalari family were killed or arrested
most of them in the beginning of dictatorship.

also involved in another political coalition who
sent a note to the allied forces in order to postpone the elections
and have supervision of the elections by them.
Musine
writes the
note personally and meets also with Col. Palmer. In January the
23rd

1946she gets arrested again for her political views.
Musine
is subject to prolonged tortures but she never gives
up her vision of
a multi
party system as the only way to achieve a
development in the society.
Together with other

she is judged in a military court in
July the
2nd 1946.
In the courthouse she stresses another time
the importance of
a multi
party election. Even knowing that the
punishment for hex1 activities was going to be hard she never re¬
grets anything.
Musine
Kokalari occupies for two times the first
page of the
Bashldmi newspaper that refers to her as central
figure in the fight against communism in Albania. The Alba¬
nian telegraphic agency takes a photo from the courtroom were
Musine
Kokalari stands fiercely assuming the form of a legend.
Musine
is sentenced to
30
years, later reduced to
20
years, of
these she does
16
years in jail.
In prison she is tortured and pressured to ask forgiveness to
Enver Hoxha. While in prison she writes letters to
Mehmet
She-
hu,
Kadri
Azbiu, Beqir Balluku etc. Even if she was tortured in
the cruelest ways and falls unconscious many times she never ac¬
cepts to ask for forgiveness.
Enver Hoxha makes her even a proposition for marriage,
but she doesn t accept it because of the cultural difference be¬
tween them and her blood relation to him. They were second

cousins from the mother side and fourth by the. father side.
Her anticommunist activity and the fact that she was one of the
founders of the social democratic party were always seen as a
threat by the elite of the communist regime. In
1962
after serving
in prison
Musine ja
transferred to Reshen where was under the sur¬
veillance of the state security service.
In Reshen
Musine
worked in the state construction com¬
pany, where she was appointed to do hard works as for example
making and carrying mortar.
She is totally isolated form her loved once, an exception
is made only for the mother from
1961
to
1963
(year when her
mother dies)
In
1972
she writes

that denounced the communist regime.
In December
1980
Musine
gets sick with breast cancer,
In hospital she gets dismissed without having a proper
treatment.
She tries to save as many writings as she cans by sending a
letter to her nephew titled To shpetojme

at morale (Lets save as much as we can from our moral values)
Her cancer treatment is neglected by the doctors causing
not only horrible pains but also a premature death. To be added
is that doctors and staff of the hospital were under pressure by
communist regime and Enver Hoxha it self meanwhile one of her
doctors was the son-in-law of Pali
Miske
(
member of the Alba¬
nian Politburo)
In

July
1983
she dies all alone, Even dead a state security
officer accompanied by a member of Reshen Council is sent to tie
her hands with a. thick wire.
The coffin was made from leftovers from a nearby
construction.
In
1991
the coffin was reopened but was at the time impos¬
sible to remove the wires because of the cold climate. Finally
