Cover Picture: Bernard Montgomery uses the front bumper of a
TAC HQ
Willys MB to brief journalists in Sicily or Italy. Note hand
painted 8th Army badge and cotton pennant. Exactly the same
badge colours are to be found on Monty s Old Faithful Humber
staff car exhibited at IWM Duxford. (This was its
Sangro
River, Italy
paint scheme.) The sidelights remain in factory fitted location
behind the grill rather than relocated to front wings as on so many
Jeeps in British service. They appear to have white paint applied.
Camouflage in black matt finish is brush applied over flat factory
olive and a coat of dust and dirt helps complete the scheme.
Perhaps this Jeep was directly inherited from US Forces in North
Africa or Sicily due to the sidelight location and the blackout light
on front driver s side wing, which can be glimpsed at the bottom
right of the photograph.
