After
performing the world s first successful adult-to-adult right liver
living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) in Hong Kong in
1996,
Professor Sheung Tat Fan and his team at Queen Mary Hospital, The
University of Hong Kong have been striving strenuously to develop
and refine the operation, which has largely solved the problem of
organ shortage and salvaged numerous desperate patients with
terminal liver diseases. Today, right liver LDLT is a routine procedure
in the field of liver transplantation with results comparable with
and even better than deceased donor liver transplantation. It has
been widely adopted in liver transplant centers around the world.
During the eleven years of application and modification, much
effort was made to define the role and improve the technical design
of the operation. In this book, Professor Sheung Tat Fan as the
pioneer of the operation describes in detail the technical aspects of
LDLT, routine practice of the liver transplant team at Queen Mary
Hospital, and future perspectives of various areas of the operation.
The comprehensive review is a valuable resource for surgeons,
researchers, nurses, medical students, patients and laypersons
seeking information about LDLT.
