RESUME
This work represents materials of thirteen burial mounds in the Lower
Vorskla investigated with different range of completeness, It introduces to
a reader some httle-known burials of the left bank of the Vorskla river. The
manuscript of the book was ready to be published already in
1989,
but the
publication was postponed under the circumstances. Meanwhile it was
completed with some articles by D.LLevchenko and V.V.Priymak about
burials in the Lower Vorskla and with a widened list of bibliography. The
publication describes materials of

complexes of
investigateci
burials,
among-them the burial mound of AeneoUtic
—
Early Bronze Age
fKobelyaki District, Vasilycvka Village), the Bronze Age burial mounds
(DikankaDistrict.yasilyevka Village;
Novy
Sanzhary District, Lakhny and
Matye Solontsy Villages: Chutovo District, Stenka Village; Kobelyaki
District, Olkhovatka, Orhk and Tverdokhlcby Villages).
A special interest:is produced by the Aeneolitic burial nearby the village
of Vasilycvka (Kobelyaki District), completing the small grouo of
«stretched» Post-Mariupol burials in tncNorthern Left-bankof the Dnipro
River.
The most numerous is the group of pit-burials
(14).
All of them are
discovered in the burial mounds situated on watersheds. The common
thing for all pit-burials is wooden covers of the grave that have
varios
constructions, flowers and rush being used, The corpses were laid on the
back with the- feet pulled under themselves, The bottom of the grave was
coveredby floral mat, then a special kind of bed was arranged, and covered
by leather. The prevailing orientation of the buried is that of South-West
(36%),
moresefdom occurs that of South-East
(14%),
North-West
(14%)
and North-East
(1%).
In all burials the rests of ochre and sometimes of
little bonfires have been traced on the bottom. Amongst the finds in the
child's burial there arc petty pottery, a wooden
amulette, a
necklace made
of dog's teeth. The rests of a wooden vessel draw a definite kind of attention!
The pit-bunals of the Lower Vorskla burial mounds can be with no doubts
considered as those of the late Mid-Dnipro «pit-culture», the historic and
cultural union of tribes of the end of the third
—
beginning of the second
millenium
B.C.
The little-numerous set of catacombs burials in the burial mounds
nearbyStcnka Village represents the late period of catacombs' tribes in the
Lower yorskla. A special interest is produced by the burial complex from
the burial mound
№ 7
(Dikanka Region, Vasilyevka Village). It illustrates
contacts between the forest-steppe tribes of Mid-Dnipro culture and those
or catacombs culture.
Some burials of Framework and Scythiaa times reflect cultural and
historic succession of these tribes' inhabitance down the Lower Vorskla's
borderline between the Step and the Forest-steppe.
The published materials, referring

an unconditional interest and have a first-erade importance for fiirther
investigations
of the region in guestion. This can be concerned to the
Mid-Sarmatic rich burialin
Pavlo
vka Village, the burial complexes of Hun
times nearby the khutor of
Yaremenkí
and Perevolochna Village, the
Hungarian burial nearby Tverdokhleby Village. All of them are
concentrated around the Dnipro's
river-crosşing
near the mouth of the
Vorskla nearby Perevolochna. That testifies its importance as a contact link
for the Tribes of the Left Bank and the Right Bank
m
the Mid-Low Dnieper.
Having been introduced to the scientific usage these materials will
essentially complete the facts and data about the burial mounds of the
borderline between the Step and the Forest-steppe of the Dnipro's Left
Bank territory of Ukraine.
