More people are watching films than ever before. The advent of DVD
has meant movies can be seen in the home with excellent picture and
sound quality, as well as additional footage. Introduction to Film is a
concise guide to the study of film for all film students, offering an
engaging overview of the issues and perspectives that contribute to a
full understanding of the medium.
The book addresses all the important areas encountered by students
studying film, ranging from a history of Hollywood, British and World
cinema to an analysis of the key theories of different genres and
narratives. Introduction to Film also draws on a fund of diverse examples
that offer a mixture of the familiar, classic and more unusual aspects
of film. Finally, it investigates how film represents both people and
nations, and how it is influenced by constantly evolving technology.
With its original narrative line and student-centred philosophy, this
book is devised to enrich students appreciation of cinema and equip
them with the vocabulary and skills to succeed in film studies. If you
have more than a passing interest in film, Introduction to Film will
enhance your pleasure in movies and guide you to treasures you have
not yet seen.
