adam_text | After
completing High School in his native Anglophone state of Kama, Ngwe s
only option and gateway towards the fulfilment of his childhood dream is to
study in the University of Besaadi in the Francophone state of Ngola, the lone
university in the Republic of
Kamangola.
His dream however ends up in
gnawing despair when he meets with the gruesome realities of injustice,
humiliation and
marginalisation
meted out to him by his Francophone
compatriots.
Across the
Mongolo
delineates some of the
harrowing^evils
of colonisation
in
postcolonial
Africa in which peoples of opposing cultural and political
heritage were brought together to form nations, giving room for colonies to
colonise others, a prime source of the raging conflicts in Africa. The story is
told with exoticism and an admirable poetic force.
JohaNkemngong Nkengasong is a critic, playwright
and poet, one of the most virulent of Cameroon s
literati. Born in Lewoh
Fondom
in Lebialem Division
in the South West Province of Cameroon, he was
educated in Seat of Wisdom College,
Fontem,
and later
in the University of Yaounde
1,
where he obtained a
PhD and where he now teaches Literature. His
published works include: A Stylistic Approach to
Literary Appreciation, BlackCapsdndRedFeathers, a
collection of poems titled Letters to Marion and the Coming Generations and
several scholarly essays published in national and international joumabi. Across
the
Mongolo
is his first published novel. He is the current president ef the
Anglophone Cameroon Writers Association.
