Igor Dekleva
was born on December 30th
1933
in Ljubljana. He is currently profes¬
sor of »piano chamber music
-
piano duo« at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. The
foundations of his
pianistic
and compositional education were laid in Belgrade. He
then continued his studies in his home town: he graduated in piano at the Academy of
Music in Ljubljana in the class of Prof.
Janko
Ravnik
(1959);
he pursued postgraduate
studies at the
Hochschule für Musik
(Academy of Music) in Munich, in the class of Prof.
Erik Then-Bergh (I96I-I963),
and received his Master's Degree in
1970,
again at the
Academy of Music in Ljubljana, in the class of Prof. Hilda Horak. He attended master
classes in Siena with Alfred Cortot and in the
Quintetto Chigiano
in
I960,
and with
Carlo
Zecchi
at the
»Mozarteum«
in Salzburg in 1968. He has been teaching at the
Academy of Music in Ljubljana since
1967,
and was elected to a full professorship in
1998.
He played an active role in many professional associations: in the years
1986-1995
he was president of the Society of Slovene Music Artists, in the year
2000-2004
he was
president of the Society of Slovene Piano Pedagogues, affiliated to EPTA (European
Piano Teachers'Association). As a soloist he toured
-
with over
1500
concerts
-
in most
European countries, South and North America, Africa and Asia (including China). He
recorded over
30
discs, audio and video cassettes. Together with his wife and musical
partner
Alenka
they share four decades of successful colaboration in the Piano Duo
Dekleva. They toured throughout Europe and recorded six discs. Both as a soloist and
in Piano Duo Dekleva boasts more than
100
first performances of works by Slovene
composers. Together with violinist Michael
Grube
he has been appearing on the inter¬
national concert circuit for over
20
years. His output as a composer counts over 6OO
pieces, mostly for piano, with special focus on didactic literature. He is the author of
the first Slovene printed piano tutor

He was the initiator, producer and modera¬
tor of a two part television serial, emited ON BLACK AND WHITE KEYS

Igor Dekleva was a member of both national and international juries and held many
international master classes. Many Slovene and foreign quotes consolidate this musi¬
cian's place of renown as a pedagogue, performer and composer (over
30
entries in
lexicons, encyclopaedias and Who is WhoP). He received numerous awards and acco¬
lades, such as the Betetto Award of the Society of Slovene Music Artists
(1980),

norary doctorate of the World University Arizona (USA;
1987),
Grand Ambassador of
