SUMMARY
On the basis of the received material it is possible to try to look after
dynamics of necropolis formation of medieval Sudak and to try to compare
them with offered division of periods of a medieval history of Sugdeja-Sudak.
As already specified in introduction, the necropolis of early Byzantine
time, up to the middle of
VIII
cent, in Sugdeja yet it is now discover. A
material, given of
I.A.
Baranov,
is impossible to consider completely docu¬
mentary, and known for today
—
dated not earlier than the middle of
VIII
cent. Some of them are arise earner, but exist and within the framework in
the second half of this century. Most early necropolis are the necropolis
Sudak-VI, the crypts on a site of curtain XTV and ground necropolis, which
included the given crypts.

cent, and
exists to the middle of IX cent. (Sudak-VI, earth graves on a site of curtain
XIV),
or to the XI cent, (crypts). It is possible, that early medieval necropolis
existed on a place of necropolis Sudak-
VII,

things, the burials of this time are not found yet. In the middle of

historical topography of Sugdeja necropolis undergoes the certain changes.
Arises large urban necropolis on southwest
(Sudak-H)
and northeast (Sudak-
IX) sites of trading quarter of Sugdeja, existing up to middle of X cent. More
definitely, is possible to judge about necropolis under the basis of a Georgian
tower in the territory of a citadel of medieval city. By finds the specific early
medieval Crimean amphora and presence in territory of a citadel the cultural
layer of second half of IX
—
first half of X cent., the necropolis can be dated
this time. It is necessary emphasize once again, that beginning from the
middle of IX cent., the great bulk of the city burials are Christians.
The period of second half of X
—
beginning the XI cent, is marked by
occurrence the necropolis on a site of barbakan of Sudak fortress. Basic urban
cemetery is remains necropolis Sudak-II. Probably, in the same time arises
necropolis Sudak-IV, from which one is investigated only one burial. The role
of basic city necropolis in second half of XI
— XII
cent, carries out the
necropolis Sudak-II. In this period necropolis extends, it is possible, that again
formed of its independent part becomes the necropolis Sudak-I. Occur new
necropolis Sudak-
VII,
Sudak-XI.
All these necropolis continue to function in the first half of
XIII
cent.,
but the intensity of burial places considerably falls. There is a number of new
small necropolis arises at that time (on a site of curtain XV of Sudak fortress
and on the place of a temple of
Paraskeva).
To judge, whether there were, the
monastic or urban, difficultly. It is investigated only some burials, blocked by
later temples and graves, connected to them.
In second half of
XIII—
first half of
XIV
cent, there are majorities of
monastic and urban medieval Sugdeja necropolis are arise. It is necropolis
Sudak-V, Sudak-IX. Some of them are known while only on investigations and
singles burials (Sudak-VIII). Occur the monastic necropolis near the two apse
temple on the
Perchem
mountain, the necropolis of
Perchem
monastic
complex, three necropolis near temples in a port part of Sugdeja, the temple

necropolis near mosque, the temple necropolis on a site of curtain XV, the
necropolis near temple of
Paraskeva,
and necropolis near the temple on the
northwest site of trading quarter of Sugdeja. The necropolis Sudak-VII,
Sudak-I continue to actively function. Basic urban necropolis Sudak-II
gradually ceases to not use. The ground burials of this time on the necropolis
are
individual
and more often block previous burial places.
The most probably, that all of the temple necropolis of the previous
period function up to the end of
XIV
cent. But to judge it, proceeding from
minimum quantities of grave goods, is difficult. The reliably dated burial
places of the first quarter of XV cent, are found out only on the necropolis on a
site of curtain XV of Sudak fortress, on necropolis near a temple of Virgin
Maria and near a temple of
Paraskeva.
The Christian burial places of later
Turkish time are found out while only on the necropolis near a temple of
Paraskeva
and on a site of curtain XV of Sudak fortress. It is possible, that the
temple of
Paraskeva
at this time did not function any more, since in a design
of burials the details from it are used. As a whole, the urban Sudak necropolis
of XV-XVII cent., not only Christian, practically are not investigated.
Strangely enough, but more complete representation we have about Christian
necropolis of
XVIII
cent. They are found in the territory of necropolis Sudak-II.
Probably same time is dated the necropolis Sudak-III.
Thus, the materials of medieval urban Sudak necropolis essentially
and objectively supplement our knowledge about history of this unique
archaeological monument.
