Beschreibung:Almack, 10. - Authorship of the Eikon basilike was originally attributed to Charles I, but according to Madan (pp. 125-33) it was written by John Gauden who probably included some authentic writings of the king. - Bodleian copy imperfect; lacking frontis., A1, A6, N4; tightly bound with some loss of print. - Cambridge University copy imperfect; lacking frontis., A1, A6, N4; stained with print show-through. - First 2 words of title in Greek characters. - First and last leaves blank and rarely present; A6 known to exist in only two copies (cf. Madan). - Harvard copy imperfect: lacking title page, A1, A6, N4; cropped with some loss of text; frontispiece illustration mutilated. - Has folded engraved illustration preceding title page; identified as Madan frontispiece 14 (cf. Madan p. 179). - Incorrectly identified on UMI microfilm "Early English books, 1641-1700", reel 2168:6b, as variant copy of Wing E275. - Madan, F.F.
