history of the rare book department of the Omsk Regional
Museum of Fine Arts ¡s naturally connected to the history of
museum library and to the history of the museum itself.
In
1987
at the Omsk Regional Museum of Fine Arts fund of the
rare book was organized. During work with editions have been
determined criteria of an estimation of the rare book, opti¬
mum corresponding to concrete features of fund.
According to the structure, the department of the rare book collects, processes
and keeps the literature on theory and history of world and local art, on general questions
of graphic and applied art, and also on architecture, museology and restoration. Besides
that the structure of fund includes literature on history, aesthetics, archeology, bibliology
and other editions.
Fund of the rare book is the youngest in the museum, it s hardly over ten years,
however it already totals
1600
units of the storage which arrived from different sources.
The first stage of work of the new fund was studying inventory books and then undertaking
frontal viewing of scientific library of the museum. Selected items made the basic part of
the fund
-
about
80%
The collection replenished also due to purchase of books in
secondhand bookshops of Moscow, Leningrad, Omsk, from private persons. Separate
editions were brought from scientific expeditions in Omsk Region, some books were
simply presented. At the end of the

980s the structure of collection included a part of
the library of the well-known Leningrad collector academician Eugeny Lavrenko. In the
1
990s fund has considerably replenished due to purchase of books from libraries of Omsk
bibliophils V. Mayer, G. Lifanov, M. Lyudogovskaya.
The rare book department includes Russian and foreign editions of the

20th centuries. Editions in foreign languages make rather small part of fund
-
about
10%,
but among them there are unique books which can make pride of large capital libraries.
Rather valuable and claimed part of fund is made by magazines on art:
«Apollo,» «Old Years,» «Sophia,» «Gold Fleece,» «World of Art,» «Firebird» including
the whole galaxy of known names of the literary and artistic world.

The editions kept in collection have lasting historical, cultural and artistic
