Kraljevo, a
ABSTRACT
There are few towns in Serbia, which in a relatively short period of
time, for a little more than two decades, experienced such a dynamic devel¬
opment as it was the case with
wars. It came out of the First World War as a town of black kerchiefs and
flags , demographically crippled, with impoverished households, plundered
trade and craft shops, devastated schools and other public buildings,
destroyed infrastructure and almost dead economic courses, but in the next

government investments in the domain of industry and transportation, it cre¬
ated preconditions for developing into a modern city.
In the ethnic and religious senses,

noticeable traces even in this field, so that many crafts such as candlemakers,
tailors, soap manufacturers, shoeing smiths and others, slowly disappeared,
while those new, such as: car mechanics, electricians, clock repairers, print¬
ers, photographers, hairdressers, and others appeared. At the beginning of
February
those practiced most were: cloth makers, barbers, shoe repairers, peasant
shoes makers and bricklayers.
The increase of the transportation significance of

various professions. In addition to them, the industrial complex of
also included several small steam sawmills and factories manufacturing roof
tiles and bricks.
For the purpose of improving economic courses, several financial
institutions operated in
industrial enterprises and occasionally agricultural production.
Parallel with the economic and educational-cultural lives, the political
scene was livened and in the period from
were the Radical and the Democratic Parties, the former surely winning in
electoral matches, either municipal, parliamentary or territorial ones. During
the first half of the 30-ies of the XX century, the political scene of
was masterfully ruled by the regime political parties, firstly the Yugoslav
Radical-Peasant Democracy, i.e. the Yugoslav National Party, and then the
Yugoslav Radical Community, but at the municipal elections in
opposition, for the first time in the period between two wars, succeeded in
seizing the power, which enabled it to govern the municipal services of
Kraljevo

accommodation capacities of the old school building located in the centre of
the town, at the corner of Rajiceva Street and

Grammar School and the Advanced Self-Goverament Real Grammar School,

changing in both physical and spiritual senses, in which different nations,
cultures, habits and mentalities were intrwoven and which was rushing for¬
