RESUME
The Science
ceived in four extensive chapters: PRINTING, BOOKSELLING,
LIBRARIANSHIP and BIBLIOGRAPHY. The author has given,
basing on facts, concerned his previous and some resent archival
and other researches, the entire and versatile review of these impor¬
tant subdivisions of The Science of the Book. Several times he
used to write and publish some monographic publications (books),
plenty of articles and discussions about printing, librarianship and
bibliography. The interpretation of the subject in all its parts is sci¬
entifically based, on a richness of scientific facts with a use of a
proper scientific method.

negro is presented. It has not been written about it in historio¬
graphy ever since, although the bookshops are very important cul¬
tural institutions

Librarianship in Montenegro has had a long tradition. As a
scientific discipline it appears already in the second part of
century, and in

general review the author points at several phases in its develop¬
ment.
Still in DIOCLEA (Doklea) within Benedictine monasteries
there were libraries. In
transcriptional and illuminative centers
scripts were hand made. During the time the most of them were
grown apart, and today many of them, as handwriting book of a
great worth, are saved in national-state safe-keeping places all over
Europe.
In
In monasteries at the Montenegrin coast, on the Lake of Ska¬
dar, in the free part of Montenegro (Old Montenegro and Hills),
and in the northern part of Montenegro, during Middle Ages seve¬
ral scriptoria, contributing to forming of libraries in staying sacral
buildings, existed.
Here are presented basic information on beginning and deve¬
lopment of all of monastic libraries in Montenegro, from the oldest
one
and St.Trojice in Pljevlja, as the richest in bookish fond, as well as
of other types of libraries: public, school
special, Montenegrin Academy of Arts and Science
brary, University and faculties. There are also relevant data on boo¬
kish funds and functions as well as about the staff.
As for the public libraries, concerning the oldest in Ko-
tor(1832),
vat(1909) etc. there is a review of their beginnings and activities;
then, as for the continental part of Montenegro the special stress is
put on the Reader-Room with Library in Cetinje, which was foun¬
ded in
libraries in many other cities and villages of Montenegro after Ber¬
lin s Congress

role and contributed to establishing of other reader-rooms with li¬
braries (Niksic

It is specially told about The National Library of Montene¬
gro. Its founder is

Librarians of Montenegro, about its importance, got awards and na¬
mes of laureates, as well as about its organs: Bibliopoly herald, Bi¬
bliography Gazette, Informative bulletin, with some basic informa¬
tion on them.

In the fourth, final chapter the author thoroughly analyzes the
history of bibliography in Montenegro. He concludes that the first
bibliographers were Italians: Giuseppe Valentineli,

Special attention is drawn to retrospective bibliography
which was done almost two and half decades with previously made
conception and precisely defined criteria (territorial, national and
specialized) within the multidiscipline project: „Montenegrin Bibli¬
ography
Montenegrin science and culture. Within four volumes,
were published.
Apart from these, a dozen, complementary to this
great project, editions were published, for example, by Prof D.

negro is presented. It has not been written about it in historio¬
graphy ever since, although the bookshops are very important cul¬
tural institutions

Librarianship in Montenegro has had a long tradition. As a
scientific discipline it appears already in the second part of
century, and in

general review the author points at several phases in its develop¬
ment.
Still in DIOCLEA (Doklea) within Benedictine monasteries
there were libraries. In
transcriptional and illuminative centers
scripts were hand made. During the time the most of them were
grown apart, and today many of them, as handwriting book of a
great worth, are saved in national-state safe-keeping places all over
Europe.

In monasteries at the Montenegrin coast, on the Lake of Ska¬
dar, in the free part of Montenegro (Old Montenegro and Hills),
and in the northern part of Montenegro, during Middle Ages seve¬
ral scriptoria, contributing to forming of libraries in staying sacral
buildings, existed.
Here are presented basic information on beginning and deve¬
lopment of all of monastic libraries in Montenegro, from the oldest
one
and St.Trojice in Pljevlja, as the richest in bookish fond, as well as
of other types of libraries: public, school
special, Montenegrin Academy of Arts and Science
brary, University and faculties. There are also relevant data on boo¬
kish funds and functions as well as about the staff.
As for the public libraries, concerning the oldest in Ko-
tor(1832),
vat(1909) etc. there is a review of their beginnings and activities;
then, as for the continental part of Montenegro the special stress is
put on the Reader-Room with Library in Cetinje, which was foun¬
ded in
libraries in many other cities and villages of Montenegro after Ber¬
lin's Congress

role and contributed to establishing of other reader-rooms with li¬
braries (Niksic

history of bibliography in Montenegro. He concludes that the first

which was done almost two and half decades with previously made
