the Roman revolutionary arrm and the manner in which it carried
out the work of destroying the state has not always been properly
understood. Keavenev believes this has happened because ol both
a misunderstanding of the nature ot the source material and a
mistaken approach to the historical problem it poses.

therefore concerns itself with the intrusion of the army into the
political sphere and with the consequences which flowed from it.
Contran
to what is often assumed, Keavenev demonstrates that
Sulla, and not
Marins,
created the Roman revolutionary army and
that its economic motivation was perhaps less than its political.
In essence, the development and changes in the army will be traced
over two generations, and it will be demonstrated that what Sulla
bevian, (.X'taN'ian finished.
