Summary
On
organised a special session in order to commemorate its many-year member (since
1938)
of his birth and the 25th anniversary of his death. The meeting was preceded by the
exhibition The Life and Activities of Adam Vetulani
by the
Sciences (starting from April
name of the Archives of Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences and of the
Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences). The present publication is the outcome of
these events.

Grodziski
including the stages of his career at the Jagiellonian University, his connections
with peasant movement and with the Front Morges as well as his educational
activity in interment camps in Switzerland during the Second World War. Special
attention was paid to very original pedagogical methods applied by Vetulani to his
work with his most talented students.
Adam Vetulani's achievements in the publication of source materials and
studies on medieval legislative culture was discussed by
article Adam Vetulani
political system and law. Vetulani carried out and supervised inventory works as
well as works connected with copying and preparing register books from the
country regions of
other scholars and with his students he published sources related to the history of
Polish political system and law. He was interested in broadly understood histoiy of
Polish law. As a researcher he paid much attention to the Polish political system till
1795.

focused his efforts on the reactivation of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences

a son of a very famous father, particularly in the situation, when, due to the war, he

was absent during the hard time of adolescence. The actual acquaintance and
mutual understanding started after the father's return to Poland in
Vetulani recollects his attempts to become independent in his youthful years, but he
adds that he always felt discreet care of his father who was bringing him up by
giving good examples and behaving in agreement with the following principle: "If
you don't know what to do, act in accordance with your conscience".
emphasises that his father did not get depressed facing several tragedies in their
family: the loss of his siblings, the disability of his wife, and the death of his
younger son. What helped him to endure was his religiousness and the support of
his friends.

to hieroglyphs. He also mentioned the fact that Vetulani was not pleased with
Wojtyla's nomination as suffragan bishop of Krakow. He treated it as a great loss to
the Church, since because of his promotion
