Zusammenfassung: | Pirates, bandits, and smugglers have bedeviled governments since time immemorial. Politicians and media today obsess over terrorism and trafficking in drugs, arms, people and money. Far less is said or known, however, about the expanding global reach of the police, prosecutors, and agencies like Interpol and Europol charged with targeting transnational crime. In this illuminating history that spans past campaigns against piracy and slavery to contemporary campaigns against drug trafficking and transnational terrorism, Peter Andreas and Ethan Nadelmann explain how and why prohibitions and policing practices increasingly extend across borders. The internationalization of crime control is too often described as simply a natural and predictable response to the growth of transnational crime in an age of globalization. Andreas and Nadelmann challenge this conventional view as at best incomplete and at worst misleading. The internationalization of policing, they demonstrate, primarily reflects ambitious efforts by generations of western powers to export their own definitions of "crime," not just for political and economic gain but also in an attempt to promote their own morals to other parts of the world. A thought-provoking analysis of the historical expansion and recent dramatic acceleration of international crime control, Policing the Globe provides a much-needed bridge between criminal justice and international relations on a topic of crucial public importance. |

A thought-provoking analysis of the historical expansion and recent dramatic acceleration of international crime control, Policing the Globe provides a much-needed bridge between criminal justice and international relations on a topic of crucial public importance.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Criminalité internationale - Prévention - Coopération internationale</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Lois - Application - Coopération internationale</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Transnational crime</subfield><subfield code="x">Prevention</subfield><subfield code="x">International cooperation</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Law enforcement</subfield><subfield code="x">International cooperation</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Kriminalität</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4033178-7</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Bekämpfung</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4112701-8</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Internationale Kriminalität</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4292962-3</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Internationale Kooperation</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4120503-0</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Prävention</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4076308-0</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Kriminalität</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4033178-7</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="1"><subfield code="a">Prävention</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4076308-0</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Internationale Kooperation</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4120503-0</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="5">DE-604</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Internationale Kriminalität</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4292962-3</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="1" ind2="1"><subfield code="a">Bekämpfung</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4112701-8</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="1" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Internationale Kooperation</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4120503-0</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="5">DE-188</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Nadelmann, Ethan Avram</subfield><subfield code="d">1957-</subfield><subfield code="e">Verfasser</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)15577347X</subfield><subfield code="4">aut</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2=" "><subfield code="u">http://www.loc.gov/catdir/toc/ecip062/2005029995.html</subfield><subfield code="3">Table of contents only</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2=" "><subfield code="u">http://www.loc.gov/catdir/enhancements/fy0636/2005029995-d.html</subfield><subfield code="3">Publisher description</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="2"><subfield code="m">Digitalisierung UB Passau</subfield><subfield code="q">application/pdf</subfield><subfield code="u">http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=015415795&sequence=000003&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA</subfield><subfield code="3">Klappentext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="2"><subfield code="m">Digitalisierung UB Passau</subfield><subfield code="q">application/pdf</subfield><subfield code="u">http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=015415795&sequence=000004&line_number=0002&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA</subfield><subfield code="3">Inhaltsverzeichnis</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="999" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">oai:aleph.bib-bvb.de:BVB01-015415795</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |

spelling | Andreas, Peter 1965- Verfasser (DE-588)141913193 aut Policing the globe criminalization and crime control in international relations Peter Andreas and Ethan Nadelmann Oxford [u.a.] Oxford Univ. Press 2006 XIII, 333 S. txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier Pirates, bandits, and smugglers have bedeviled governments since time immemorial.
