The formation of the Bulgarian nationality during the Early
Middle Ages is one of the most important processes in the relation
to the Bulgarian country, brought forth at the end of the
The fundamental aspect in the following is the question of the origin
and the native land of the ancient Bulgarians, also known in the
scholarly literature as „Old Bulgarians or^Proto-BuIgarians .
An increasing interest has been shown lately to the carried
out researches on this problem, to the effect of which heterogeneous
hypotheses of different nature come forward to the scientific field
of studies. In this current research a certain
been applied to and a consequent distinction between four major
theories of the origin of the ancient Bulgarians. These theories are
called provisionally pamiro-ferganian, thraco-iiiymn, hunorianand
turkian.Also revealed are the bigger part of the evidence which had
brought to the advent of each one of the hypotheses and along with
them the correspondingly counter arguments are pointed out
In the second part of the book on the basic of archaeological,
historical and linguistic evidence a new survey is put forward
concerning the formation of the Bulgarian nationality and the
mutual relationship between the population which inhabited the
Balkans and the newly settled southwards of the Danube Slavs and
Proto-Bulgarians after V-VI
the three ethnic components, which took part in the formation
of the Bulgarian nation, were more closely related to each other
that it has been presented to us so far. What is more, the common
thing between them not only on the basis of their language but on
the

In the last third part, the author looks back to the pre-history
of the Balkan lands. The study of the events which took place on the

of the Middle Ages.
The major inferences in the book are those about the
undoubted Indo-European belonging of the Slavs, the Thracians
and the Proto-Bulgarians and their closer ethnic kinship. In virtue
of archaeological, historical and linguistic evidence is pointed out
the far too big possibility of the local Balkan population could have
been at the base of the processes of the original development and
dissemination of the Indo-Europeans on the territory of Europe.

The formation of the Bulgarian nationality during the Early
