la historia de una isla caribeña, de los seres que la componen y de cómo la niña Isabel,
pobre y abandonada por su madre, tuvo que entrar a servir antes de aprender a leer y,
más tarde, trabajar como costurera y vendedora ilegal de licor para obtener el respeto
de los suyos y la libertad que da el
dinero, hasta convertir su existencia
en parábola y mito para los habitantes
del barrio de San Antón y todos
