Zusammenfassung:A publication by members of the Schmalkaldic league of a papal letter to 13 Swiss towns, calling for military support in the conflict that came to be known as the Schmalkaldic War. The letter argues that since the Protestants were boycotting the Council of Trent, they were responsible for the breakdown of diplomatic talks and there was no way to avoid a military confrontation. On the other hand, the two people largely responsible for the publication of this letter, Johann Friedrich Elector of Saxony and Philipp Landgrave of Hesse, took the letter as proof that the Pope had already decided to discontinue negotiations and go to war, and were trying to win support for their own cause by publicizing the letter.
