he oral history interview is a performance, framed, charged, reflexive, and co-creative, it is a dynamic act of remembering. This volume considers myriad ways in which the vitality of the interview encounter may he amplified in retellings that include lite reflections of incarcerated men, urban community installations, a full-scale production of a labor strike, and young people’s incorporation of elders’ stories into their own. The essays in this collection advocate oral history and oral history-based performance as a means of challenging and expanding upon traditional ways of transmitting historical knowledge. Of central concern in this book arc the performative aspects of oral history, and theatrical or classroom re-performance. Presenting the most current scholarship on this subject, this volume pursues the rich intersection between oral history and performance. At its heart, Remembering: Orni History I’erformanec is about invigorating the possibilities for change through public recollection. T
