Summary
Although the first public concerts, foUowing
the French example of Concerts
organized in
and church celebrations by the
Wacław hrabia Sierakowski
century, but real roots of the Krakow s Philhar¬
monics should be found in activities of Friends of
Music Society established on November
in the Krakow s Republic, which had music popular¬
ization through organizing concerts as an aim.
The Friends of Music Society acted until
only, however it found successors in various and
numerous though ephemeral associations. A rise of
musical life in Krakow has happened ten years later
when the Music Society was established, led until
the WWI by the most prominent professors of
Jagiollonian University.
The town community thanks to the Music
Society and activities of the Krakow s Conceits
Management founded in

musicians were guests in Krakow in a number.
Posters and newspapers named among others Josef
Joachim and Johannes Brahms, Anton Rubinstein
and Annette Esipow, Pablo

of the GG Philharmonics musicians and a haste
of Nazis leaving Krakow, all instruments and

contemporary music .

remember is a series of fourteen recitals and organ
