Long-term excavations in Novgorod s
waterlogged conditions have uncovered a
vast range of wooden objects, perhaps the
largest collection of this type of material
from any urban site in Europe. This volume,
the second in a series on the archaeology
of Novgorod, examines this evidence and

ways in which wood was exploited by the
town s medieval inhabitants. It builds on
the seminal work on Novgorod s wooden
