of the conscious construction or truth and reality. Struc -
/
tured to reflect Einstein s relativity theory, the Alexandria
Qucirtot is an intricate intervveav ing or linguistic resources.
Using M. A. K. Hallidav s sxstemic linguistic theory or text
analysis, Reconstructing Reality -probes the inner work-
ings of Durreil s masterpiece to bring us closer to an
understanding of how meaning is created, in the process,
this book prox ides insight into both the Alexandria Quar-
tet itself, as well as into the linguistic nature or literary com-
position.
Linda Stump Rashidi is Associate Professor in the Depart-
ment or Languages and Literature at Mansfield University
of Pennsylvania, where she teaches linguistics, compo-
sition, and literature. She received her Ph.D. in theoret-
ical linguistics from Michigan State University. Dr. Rashidi
has published numerous articles vxorldw ide on Durreil s
work, as well as on discourse analysis of Afghan Persian
and Moroccan Berber, and is co-editor of a volume on lan-
guage and gender in the Aral.) world. She has lived and
taught in Afghanistan, lapan, China, and Morocco.
