POLITICAL CONCEPTIONS OF THE SERBIAN NATIONAL ISSUE
The study was based on Ph. D. work of
Jovan
Bazic
named Political concep-
lons of the Serbian national issue, which was successfully promoted at the Faculty
ot Political Sciences, University of Belgrade, July
2, 2002.
The present Doctorate
analyses the political ideas in 19th and 20th centuries about the resolution of the
erbian national issue, contained in the documents of the political parties in Serbia,
n he governmental documents and in literature. These ideas cover comprehension,
Promotion and ways and means of realization of the Serbian national interests and
jectives. They are all based on the demands for national liberation and formation
a state that would embrace the whole Serbian nation, and its governance. Those
Political ideas are all synthesized and classified by ideological similarity and their
olution in time, thus representing relatively consistent systems named political
inceptions about the resolution of the Serbian national issue.
The results are political concepts labeled as:

le taral-democratic, the socialist and radical concepts evolved in the second half

the 19th century and were strongly present till the establishment of Yugoslavia
(1918).
The ideas about the liberation of the Serbian nation from the Ottoman and
Habsburg
emperors prevailed along with the formation of one state wrapping the

Serbian nation. It was widely upheld that the objective was accomplished

en Yugoslavia was created. Given the new state, the ideas were more or less ex¬
isted, although still present here and there in 20th century, transformed though

different streams of ideas and political groups and parties that underscored the po¬
lity issue of Yugoslavia and ideological character of the government.
At the end of 20th century, with the initiation of the process of break down of
Yugoslavia, when the Serbian State issue was reopened, these concepts became very
current and prominent in line with the then political processes. They were primarily
dominated by the idea of democratic restructuring of Yugoslavia, and by the idea of
the Serbian state, based on self-determination right, assumed as the crucial principle
in the process of break down of Yugoslavia. The communist concept evolved imme¬
diately after the creation of Yugoslavia and it was predominating till it fell apart.
The options for supra-national social communities were pronounced but also the po¬
litical results of degradation of ethnic and state being of the Serbian nation, and
Yugoslavia itself. And, finally, mondialistic concept appeared by the end of 20th
century, which, like the communist advocates supra-national social communities,
but based on the ideology and politics of the new world order.
Concomitantly to the analysis of the political ideas about the resolution of the
Serbian national issue, considered are the relevant issues of inauguration of the Ser¬
bian nation, socio-historical and political processes in Serbia and Yugoslavia, as
well as the issues of the dominant political ideas and their effect on the definition of
the political concepts about the resolution of the Serbian national issue.
