Beschreibung: | This is a case study of the patterns of social-race relations and the processes producing them in a desegregated school in an industrial city in North Carolina. As an ethnographic study, the focus of the research is on the place of social race in the social order of the school. The primary objectives of this study include a description and analysis of the school as a context for black-white participation, understanding, and socialization. Also investigated are possible factors, including district-level pressures, shaping the social order found in the school. An extensive reference list is provided along with the following appendices: (1) a research data filing and categorizing system; (2) categories of information for formal observation; (3) a sociometric interview; (4) teacher interviews on desegregation; (5) field notes on relations of the school's teachers and students to the researchers; (6) an application form and collection guides for free or reduced meals and free milk; and (7) recommendations |
