This volume is the result of a conference entitled The Neurosciences and Music: Mutual
Interactions and Implications on Developmental Functions held by the Fondazione Pierfranco
e Luisa Mariani in cooperation with the International School of Neurological Sciences, San
Servolo, Venice, and the Venice International University, San Servolo, and co sponsored by
the New York Academy of Sciences; European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music
(ESCOM), Belgium; 7th International Conference on Music Perception Cognition (ICMPC
2002), Australia; and the International Society for Music in Medicine (ISMM); with the
participation of the Conservatorio di Musica Benedetto Marcello, Venice, and held on
October 25 27, 2002 in Venice, San Servolo Island, Italy.
