Zusammenfassung: | Electromyography (EMG) is a fundamental technique universally used to resolve many or most of the problems of physical ergonomics. Until the publication of this book, no focused discussion which facilitates an objective view of the uses and limitations of the technique has been available. The thorough and extensive description of EMG with its applications which these chapters provide will enhance our understanding and improve our practice. The editors are confident that, through this publication, the technique of electromyography will leave the realm of mystique and settle into the world of pragmatism and application. Of course, as a discipline ergonomics is diverse and so is the use of electromyography. The technique has been used ever since its inception to explicate muscle load due to the ambiguity which may arise as a lack of a precise relationship between EMG and muscle load Ergonomic applications are inherently of considerable value to individuals, industry and economy alike, yet there appears to be a mystique involved in EMG's application, both with respect to its authority and lack of it. The current book successfully takes the mystique out of EMG with chapters written by the key leaders in the field. The book's scientific and technical grounding will help to develop a better understanding of the issues for beginners or for those who are simply unsure. The introductory chapter puts the entire field in perspective because particular care has been taken to highlight the ergonomic perspectives. Following this, chapters focus on the specific issues of understanding of the concept of electromyography, its limitations and the caveats and cautions. The unique aspect of skill acquisition and the important aspects of repetitive loading and electromyographic technology are of particular significance and value to ergonomists around the world |
