It provides an
overview of the comparative chemistry of the s-bfock and p-block elements—the
main group elements—and the compounds they form. The author deliberately
adopts a non-mathematical approach and indicates how the various trends in
chonical properties can be rationalized,

the student understand and appreciate these trends.
The first chapter examines atomic structure and explains why the periodic table
has the form it does. The next two chapters address properties of the dements
