Zusammenfassung: | In this new book Liliane Haegeman presents an account of sentential negation within a Government and Binding framework. Building on the work of Klima and Lasnik, Haegeman demonstrates the parallelism between negative sentences and interrogative sentences, and gives a unified analysis in terms of a well-formedness condition on syntactic representations: the AFFECT-criterion, instantiated as the WH-criterion in interrogative sentences and as the NEG-criterion in negative sentences. It is shown that in the same way that in many languages the WH-criterion gives rise to WH-movement, the NEG-criterion may also give rise to NEG-movement. This is particularly clear in the Germanic languages. In the analysis of sentential negation in Romance languages the author makes extensive use of the notion of representational chain, showing that in these languages too the NEG-criterion applies at the level of s-structure In addition to providing a syntactic analysis of sentential negation the book raises a number of theoretical issues such as that of the distinction between A-positions and A'-positions and the level of application of well-formedness conditions. This book will be of interest to all those working on theoretical syntax, particularly of the Germanic and Romance languages |

spelling | Haegeman, Liliane M. V. 1954- Verfasser (DE-588)132694433 aut The syntax of negation Liliane Haegeman 1. publ. Cambridge u.a. Cambridge Univ. Pr. 1995 XV, 335 S. graph. Darst. txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier Cambridge studies in linguistics 75 In this new book Liliane Haegeman presents an account of sentential negation within a Government and Binding framework. This book will be of interest to all those working on theoretical syntax, particularly of the Germanic and Romance languages Gramática comparada y general - Interrogativo Gramática comparada y general - Sintaxis Interrogatif Négations (Linguistique) Ontkenningen (taalkunde) gtt Regeer- en bindtheorie gtt Syntaxe Teoría del régimen y la reacción (Lingüística) Théorie du liage et du gouvernement (Linguistique) Grammatik Government-binding theory (Linguistics) Grammar, Comparative and general Interrogative Grammar, Comparative and general Negatives Grammar, Comparative and general Syntax Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 gnd rswk-swf Negation (DE-588)4137553-1 gnd rswk-swf Syntax (DE-588)4058779-4 gnd rswk-swf Satz (DE-588)4138320-5 gnd rswk-swf Bindungstheorie Linguistik (DE-588)4145567-8 gnd rswk-swf Germanische Sprachen (DE-588)4113716-4 gnd rswk-swf Grammatik (DE-588)4021806-5 gnd rswk-swf GB-Theorie (DE-588)4325015-4 gnd rswk-swf Romanische Sprachen (DE-588)4115788-6 gnd rswk-swf Generative Syntax (DE-588)4156611-7 gnd rswk-swf Satz (DE-588)4138320-5 s Negation (DE-588)4137553-1 s DE-604 Grammatik (DE-588)4021806-5 s Bindungstheorie Linguistik (DE-588)4145567-8 s Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 s Syntax (DE-588)4058779-4 s GB-Theorie (DE-588)4325015-4 s Germanische Sprachen (DE-588)4113716-4 s Romanische Sprachen (DE-588)4115788-6 s Generative Syntax (DE-588)4156611-7 s Cambridge studies in linguistics 75 (DE-604)BV000000639 75 SWB Datenaustausch application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=006746712&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
