Zusammenfassung:There are many reasons why parents are becoming more aware of school, community and government efforts to establish a better environment for their children: greater knowledge of good learning conditions; greater need, especially on the part of handicapped youngsters, to adapt to a complex world; social and cultural changes, such as the civil rights movement and student activism; federal and state legislation; and a desire to feel some degree of control over the direction a child's life takes. Parent involvement in development programs is seen as beneficial to the child, the parent, and the program. Some of the programs examined are the Brookline Early Education Project, the Mobile Van Library, and the Home Start Program. Parent involvement can be encouraged by a program home visitation specialist. Parental attitudes are of great importance in molding children's outlook.
