Zusammenfassung: | Arata Isozaki is one of Japan's greatest architects and a commanding presence in the international architecture world. His distinctive brand of modernism, combining a respect for tradition and craft with a commitment to modern form and high technology, continues to influence the practice of architecture worldwide. Arata Isozaki: Architecture 1960-1990 is a lavishly illustrated and comprehensive examination of Isozaki's career. Published to coincide with an exhibition of Isozaki's work at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the book presents photographs and drawings of forty-five projects accompanied by descriptive texts that illuminate the architect's goals and intentions. Among the featured projects are the Gunma Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts, the Tsukuba Center Building, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Disney Building outside Orlando, and the master plan for the Brooklyn Museum in New York. Also included are four entries on Isozaki's exhibition installations. In addition to a preface by Richard Koshalek, the book contains critical essays by David B. Stewart and Hajime Yatsuka, each discussing a specific aspect of Isozaki's diverse oeuvre. A comprehensive list of Isozaki's projects and a bibliography are also included. |
