Introducing English Grammar

Most post-school students following courses in English language, literature
or linguistics find they are expected to be familiar with basic grammatical
concepts related to the description of English. But many have never been
taught them, have failed to understand them or have never had to put them
into practice. This book is written for them, it argues the importance of
V.i
animar
for describing the structure and function of language, and firmly
dispds the idea that it is just a set of dreary rules. The book presents some
elementary concepts of grammar, in a theory-neutral way, and will equip
students with the foundations of grammatical analysis which they need
before going on to further studies. The text is carefully structured and
designed to build up students confidence and give them a positive approach
to grammar. Text and diagrams are well integrated and attractively
presented and there are exercises for every point.
