Zusammenfassung: | "Walt Disney World and Orlando have become the world's most popular tourist destination. Using the metaphor of love and marriage, this intriguing book traces the evolution of the Disney World-Orlando relationship, an "economic-development marriage," says the author, characterized by conflict and consensus, individuality and mutual dependency - just like a real marriage." "But there is another side to the story. As the author shows, growth not only gives, it also takes away. Fueled by Disney's arrival, the tremendous growth in Orlando has created public expenditure needs, but not always matching tax resources. It has generated traffic congestion, public facility deficits, affordable housing shortages, and a low-wage economy. This situation is complicated further because of the special enticement granted to the Disney Co. for coming to Florida: their own private government - a sort of "Vatican with Mouse ears"--With powers and immunities that exceed Orlando's."--Jacket. |

Fueled by Disney's arrival, the tremendous growth in Orlando has created public expenditure needs, but not always matching tax resources. It has generated traffic congestion, public facility deficits, affordable housing shortages, and a low-wage economy. This situation is complicated further because of the special enticement granted to the Disney Co. for coming to Florida: their own private government - a sort of "Vatican with Mouse ears"--With powers and immunities that exceed Orlando's."--Jacket.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">City planning</subfield><subfield code="z">Florida</subfield><subfield code="z">Orlando.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Urban policy</subfield><subfield code="z">Florida</subfield><subfield code="z">Orlando.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Walt Disney World (Fla.)</subfield><subfield code="x">Planning.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Politique urbaine</subfield><subfield code="z">Floride</subfield><subfield code="z">Orlando.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Walt Disney World (Flor.)</subfield><subfield code="x">Planification.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">PERFORMING ARTS</subfield><subfield code="x">Business Aspects.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">TRAVEL</subfield><subfield code="x">Amusement & Theme Parks.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Corporate & Business History.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">City planning</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Planning</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Urban policy</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Florida</subfield><subfield code="z">Orlando</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJbCJWfxv4KWmqjyXbDXh3</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Florida</subfield><subfield code="z">Walt Disney World</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Computer network resources.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Married to the mouse (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFw3pytCfk8dbRHDQfmbFq</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Foglesong, Richard E., 1948-</subfield><subfield code="t">Married to the mouse.</subfield><subfield code="d">New Haven : Yale University Press, ©2001</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 00012560</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBU</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBU</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=188054</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Ebook Library</subfield><subfield code="b">EBLB</subfield><subfield code="n">EBL3420319</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ebrary</subfield><subfield code="b">EBRY</subfield><subfield code="n">ebr10210202</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">188054</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">2772616</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBU</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |
