Zusammenfassung: | A re-interpretation of the master of Japanese cinema from a socio-historical perspective. One of the most well regarded of non-Western film directors, responsible for acknowledged classics like Tokyo Story (1953), Ozu Yasujiro worked during a period of immense turbulence for Japan and its population. This book offers a new interpretation of Ozu's career, from his earliest work in the 1920s up to his death in 1963, focusing on Ozu's depiction of the everyday life and experiences of ordinary Japanese people during a time of depression, war and economic resurgence. Firmly situating him within the context of the Japanese film industry, Woojeong Joo examines Ozu's work as a studio director and his relation to sound cinema, and looks in-depth at his wartime experiences and his adaptation to post-war Japanese society. Drawing on Japanese materials not previously examined in western scholarship, this is a ground-breaking new study of a master of cinema. Case studies include:. Ozu's shoshimin films Ozu's wartime films, including the script of The Flavour of Green Tea over Rice Postwar script of The Moon Has Risen Tokyo Story One of the most well regarded of non-Western film directors, responsible for acknowledged classics like Tokyo Story (1953), Ozu Yasujiro worked during a period of immense turbulence for Japan and its population. Drawing on Japanese materials not previously examined in western scholarship, this is a groundbreaking new study of a master of cinema.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Ozu, Yasujirō,</subfield><subfield code="d">1903-1963</subfield><subfield code="x">Criticism and interpretation.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Ozu, Yasujirō,</subfield><subfield code="d">1903-1963</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJy8xhHmV968mC66Hchyh3</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Ozu, Yasujirō</subfield><subfield code="d">1903-1963</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="630" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Bibel</subfield><subfield code="p">Philemonbrief</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Motion picture producers and directors</subfield><subfield code="z">Japan.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Producteurs et réalisateurs de cinéma</subfield><subfield code="z">Japon.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">PERFORMING ARTS</subfield><subfield code="x">Reference.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">PERFORMING ARTS</subfield><subfield code="x">Film & Video</subfield><subfield code="x">Direction & Production.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Motion picture producers and directors</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Japan</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJkT7GyCmyjxytDfqk6Yfq</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Criticism, interpretation, etc.</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">The cinema of Ozu Yasujiro (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFDjjmgmq7YRcBMpwjwdXq</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Joo, Woojeong.</subfield><subfield code="t">Cinema of Ozu Yasujiro.</subfield><subfield code="d">Edinburgh : Edinburgh University Press, [2017]</subfield><subfield code="z">9780748696321</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2017296085</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)988184708</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Edinburgh studies in East Asian film.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2014145303</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=1584958</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Askews and Holts Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">ASKH</subfield><subfield code="n">AH33867938</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ProQuest Ebook Central</subfield><subfield code="b">EBLB</subfield><subfield code="n">EBL5012988</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">1584958</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ProQuest MyiLibrary Digital eBook Collection</subfield><subfield code="b">IDEB</subfield><subfield code="n">cis38341052</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">14775399</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |
