Zusammenfassung: | African Americans and Jungian Psychology: Leaving the Shadows explores the little-known racial relationship between the African diaspora and C.G. Jung's analytical psychology. In this unique book, Fanny Brewster explores the culture of Jungian psychology in America and its often-difficult relationship with race and racism. Beginning with an examination of how Jungian psychology initially failed to engage African Americans, and continuing to the modern use of the Shadow in language and imagery, Brewster creates space for a much broader discussion regarding race and racism in America. Using Jung's own words, Brewster establishes a timeline of Jungian perspectives on African Americans from the past to the present. She explores the European roots of analytical psychology and its racial biases, as well as the impact this has on contemporary society. The book also expands our understanding of the negative impact of racism in American psychology, beginning a dialogue and proposing how we might change our thinking and behaviors to create a twenty-first-century Jungian psychology that recognizes an American multicultural psyche and a positive African American culture. African Americans and Jungian Psychology: Leaving the Shadows explores the positive contributions of African culture to Jung's theories and will be essential reading for analytical psychologists, academics and students of Jungian and post-Jungian studies, African American studies, and American studies. |

African Americans and Jungian Psychology: Leaving the Shadows explores the positive contributions of African culture to Jung's theories and will be essential reading for analytical psychologists, academics and students of Jungian and post-Jungian studies, African American studies, and American studies.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Jungian psychology.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh95006221</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">African Americans</subfield><subfield code="x">Psychology.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85001972</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Psychoanalytic interpretation.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85108424</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Jungian Theory</subfield><subfield code="x">history</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Black or African American</subfield><subfield code="x">psychology</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="2" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Black or African American</subfield><subfield code="x">ethnology</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="2" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Racism</subfield><subfield code="x">psychology</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="2" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Psychoanalytic Interpretation</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="2" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">History, 20th Century</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="2" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">History, 21st Century</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">United States</subfield><subfield code="x">ethnology</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Psychologie analytique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Noirs américains</subfield><subfield code="x">Psychologie.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Interprétation psychanalytique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Médecine</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire</subfield><subfield code="y">20e siècle.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Médecine</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire</subfield><subfield code="y">21e siècle.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">HEALTH & FITNESS</subfield><subfield code="x">Diseases</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">MEDICAL</subfield><subfield code="x">Clinical Medicine.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">MEDICAL</subfield><subfield code="x">Diseases.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">MEDICAL</subfield><subfield code="x">Evidence-Based Medicine.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">MEDICAL</subfield><subfield code="x">Internal Medicine.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Psychoanalytic interpretation</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">African Americans</subfield><subfield code="x">Psychology</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Jungian psychology</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Brewster, Fanny.</subfield><subfield code="t">African Americans and Jungian psychology.</subfield><subfield code="d">Abingdon, Oxon ; Print version record. African Americans and Jungian Psychology: Leaving the Shadows explores the little-known racial relationship between the African diaspora and C.G.
