Zusammenfassung: | "Suffocating smog regularly envelops Chinese metropolises from Beijing to Shanghai, clouding the future prospect of China's growth sustainability. Air pollutants do not discriminate between the rich and the poor, the politician and the 'average Joe.' They put everyone's health and economic prosperity at risk, creating future costs that are difficult to calculate. Yet many people, including some in China, are concerned that addressing environmental challenges will jeopardize economic growth. In 'The Economics of Air Pollution in China, ' leading Chinese economist Ma Jun makes the case that the trade-off between growth and environment is not inevitable. In his ambitious proposal to tackle severe air pollution and drastically reduce the level of so-called PM 2.5 particles--microscopic pollutants that lodge deeply in lungs--Ma Jun argues that in targeting pollution, China has a real opportunity to undertake significant structural economic reforms that would support long-term growth. Rooted in rigorous analyses and evidence-based projections, Ma Jun's 'big bang' proposal aims to mitigate pollution and facilitate a transition to a greener and more sustainable growth model."--JSTOR website (viewed March 7, 2017) |

envelops Chinese metropolises from Beijing to Shanghai, clouding the future prospect of China's growth sustainability. Rooted in rigorous analyses and evidence-based projections, Ma Jun's 'big bang' proposal aims to mitigate pollution and facilitate a transition to a greener and more sustainable growth model."--JSTOR website (viewed March 7, 2017)</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="504" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Includes bibliographical references and index.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="505" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="6">880-01</subfield><subfield code="a">PM2.5 data, reduction model, and policy package -- Environmental actions: necessary but insufficient -- Structural adjustment: the what and the how -- Enabling change: incentives needed -- The clean up and economic growth -- Case study: Shanghai -- Case study: Beijing -- How to deal with coal -- Making green finance work in China.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on May 8, 2018).</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">In English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Air</subfield><subfield code="x">Pollution</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic aspects</subfield><subfield code="z">China.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Economic development</subfield><subfield code="x">Environmental aspects</subfield><subfield code="z">China.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Environmental policy</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic aspects</subfield><subfield code="z">China.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Sustainable development</subfield><subfield code="z">China.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Développement économique</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect de l'environnement</subfield><subfield code="z">Chine.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Environnement</subfield><subfield code="x">Politique gouvernementale</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect économique</subfield><subfield code="z">Chine.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Développement durable</subfield><subfield code="z">Chine.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">BUSINESS & ECONOMICS</subfield><subfield code="x">Infrastructure.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Air</subfield><subfield code="x">Pollution</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic aspects</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Economic development</subfield><subfield code="x">Environmental aspects</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Environmental policy</subfield><subfield code="x">Economic aspects</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Sustainable development</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">China</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJdCqh8h6hJY7PT6MQW4bd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Cleary, Bernard,</subfield><subfield code="e">translator.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n90686690</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Ma, Damien,</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2013135658</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">The economics of air pollution in China (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCH48X8RdmtJ37R8DqfdXwK</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Ma, Jun, 1964-</subfield><subfield code="s">PM2.5. "Suffocating smog regularly envelops Chinese metropolises from Beijing to Shanghai, clouding the future prospect of China's growth sustainability. Rooted in rigorous analyses and evidence-based projections, Ma Jun's 'big bang' proposal aims to mitigate pollution and facilitate a transition to a greener and more sustainable growth model."--JSTOR website (viewed March 7, 2017) Includes bibliographical references and index. 880-01 PM2.5 data, reduction model, and policy package -- Environmental actions: necessary but insufficient -- Structural adjustment: the what and the how -- Enabling change: incentives needed -- The clean up and economic growth -- Case study: Shanghai -- Case study: Beijing -- How to deal with coal -- Making green finance work in China.
