Zusammenfassung: | In Ancient Concepts of the Hippocratic, Lesley Dean-Jones and Ralph Rosen have gathered 19 international authorities in ancient medicine to identify commonalities among the treatises of the Hippocratic Corpus which led scholars of antiquity to group them under the single name of Hippocrates. Most recent scholarship has drawn attention to the divergences between individual treatises and groups of treatises, emphasizing the agonistic facet of the ancient medical profession. In contrast, in this volume contributors look to find points of agreement between the writings that go beyond claims of rationality. Topics considered include ontological claims about the discipline of medicine itself, the view of the patient as a perceiving unity, theories on the function of glands and the importance of regimen. |

Most recent scholarship has drawn attention to the divergences between individual treatises and groups of treatises, emphasizing the agonistic facet of the ancient medical profession. In contrast, in this volume contributors look to find points of agreement between the writings that go beyond claims of rationality. Topics considered include ontological claims about the discipline of medicine itself, the view of the patient as a perceiving unity, theories on the function of glands and the importance of regimen.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="0" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Hippocrates</subfield><subfield code="v">Congresses.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Hippocrates</subfield><subfield code="t">Works</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Hippocrates</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Medicine</subfield><subfield code="x">Philosophy</subfield><subfield code="x">History</subfield><subfield code="v">Congresses.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Philosophy, Medical</subfield><subfield code="x">history</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Médecine</subfield><subfield code="x">Philosophie</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire</subfield><subfield code="v">Congrès.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">HEALTH & FITNESS</subfield><subfield code="x">Holism.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">HEALTH & FITNESS</subfield><subfield code="x">Reference.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">MEDICAL</subfield><subfield code="x">Alternative Medicine.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">MEDICAL</subfield><subfield code="x">Atlases.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">MEDICAL</subfield><subfield code="x">Essays.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">MEDICAL</subfield><subfield code="x">Family & General Practice.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">MEDICAL</subfield><subfield code="x">Holistic Medicine.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">MEDICAL</subfield><subfield code="x">Osteopathy.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Medicine</subfield><subfield code="x">Philosophy</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Conference papers and proceedings</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">History</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Dean-Jones, Lesley,</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n92067909</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Rosen, Ralph Mark,</subfield><subfield code="e">editor.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n87811396</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Ancient concepts of the Hippocratic (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGfhCYR8pBMJJC4VQy3DC3</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">International Hippocrates Colloquium (13th : 2008 : Austin, Tex.).</subfield><subfield code="t">Ancient concepts of the Hippocratic</subfield><subfield code="z">9789004307018</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2015032016</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)918994252</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Studies in ancient medicine ;</subfield><subfield code="v">v. 46.</subfield><subfield code="x">0925-1421</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n90667302</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=1090812</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="880" ind1="8" ind2=" "><subfield code="6">505-01/Grek</subfield><subfield code="a">Chapter 13 Teeth in the Hippocratic CorpusChapter 14 Hippocratic and Aristophanic Recipes: A Comparative Study; In Ancient Concepts of the Hippocratic, Lesley Dean-Jones and Ralph Rosen have gathered 19 international authorities in ancient medicine to identify commonalities among the treatises of the Hippocratic Corpus which led scholars of antiquity to group them under the single name of Hippocrates.
