Zusammenfassung:In this analysis of how Jewish thought and cultural identity have been articulated in modern American poetry, the author offers a few clues but does not obsess about what is distinctive about Jewish poetry. Nor does he pursue gender issues in its feminist verse. Rather, Finkelstein (English, Xavier U.) applies a Symbolist- Objectivist metric for close reading of the Jewish-American canon including Allen Ginsberg, Charles Reznikoff, Louis Zukofsky, and Harvey Shapiro. This study builds upon the author-poet's The Ritual of New Creation: Jewish Tradition and Contemporary Literature (SUNY, 1992) and related works. c. Book News Inc.
